Is this a scene straight from the story of Alice in wonderland? Or an extravagant make believe set for some multi million movie? Neither!
This is an engineering marvel. A dream come true. It is so hard to believe that the technological wonder could stretch to this extent. WOW! What an unimaginable feat. The 8th wonder of the world, perhaps.
Euro 500 million and six years is all that it took for this wonder to be built for a distance of about a kilometer now this is truly an engineering to say the least!
Located near Berlin in the city of Magdeburg over the river Elbe, this channel bridge connects the East and the West Germany as it was known earlier. It was built to commemorate the unification of the East & the West Germany. Work on this water link started in the early part of the 20th century;around 1930 or so and was abandoned in the wake of the World War II and the split of Germany. The built portion were restored in 1997 after the unification of the East & West Germany.
