Stop Swamy From Speaking on 2G scam: Govt to SC

The Centre has approached the Supreme Court seeking its direction to restrain Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy from making public statements in the 2G case, saying the matter is subjudice.

The government, in its two-page application, pointed out that Swamy had delivered a lecture on 'Hidden Facts About the 2G Spectrum' in Bangalore in which he reportedly tried to malign the Centre and its ministers in the matter which is pending in the apex court and a special CBI court.

"When the judgement is reserved after hearing the parties, apart from law, propriety demands that the litigant should not speak on the subject in public and declare that certain persons, including an accused, as guilty of serious offences," the affidavit said.

The government submitted that Swamy delivered the lecture just nine days after the apex court had on October 10 reserved its judgement on his application for a probe into Home Minister P Chidambaram's alleged role into the 2G scam when he was the Finance Minister in 2007-08.

"The said speech shows that the sole object of Swamy is to malign and lower the image and prestige of public servants holding important offices in government and Parliament," it said.

Kanimozhi is expected to get a much hoped and looked forward to bail with the CBI appearing not too keen to object to the bail plea or push for extension of her custody. The CBI does not seem to require her custody claiming to have completly unraveled the 2G scam at least insofar as she is concerned. The court, prompted by the defence lawyer it is hoped will take an expected view of she being a woman, a mother and so on and so forth. Interestingly, Kanimozhi's husband hardly stays in India and her contribution to the upbringing of her son is in no measure comparable to that of a traditional mother.

Sharad and a few other men unfortunately not being women and mother and also  possibly believed to have no role in the upbringing of their ward unlike a mother may still be required to cool their heels in the prison for some more time to come unless judged otherwise. Well, the law is blind, they say. Who knows....

The DMK camp is already upbeat with plans for a show of strength by giving her a grand reception at the Kamaraj Domestic Terminal, Chennai. This Deepawali will be a very special one for the DMK; outwardly non believers though.

Kanimozhi's mother who had been camping at N Delhi ever since her daughter was locked up in jail would also get a much needed reprieve. She had vowed not to return to Chennai or leave Delhi before the release of Kanimozhi.
