Swamy writes to CBI Chief about Sonia-Rajiv's Black Money and KGB link

Crusader against corruption and minority appeasement, Janta Party President Dr. Subramanian Swamy has asked the CBI to provide information on the black money account of the Gandhi family. He has written a letter to CBI Director AP Singh and has provided information relating to the disclosure of offences committed under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) about three incidents and requested the agency to record it as part of the first information report (FIR). According to Dr Swamy, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and his family have accounts abroad where they may have kept black money. 

He has also raised the issue of Rahul Gandhi being detained at the Boston airport in US for carrying $160,000 in cash without the mandatory declaration back in 2001. The then principal secretary to the PM, Brijesh Mishra, to my knowledge, had intervened with the US Secretary of State, and arrangements were made get to Mr Gandhi released. “In his deposition to theUS authorities before returning to London Mr Gandhi had declared that the money was his, and he had drawn it out of his secret account in Pictet Bank, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. I may mention here later that while studying in Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida, USA, Mr Gandhi paid his tuition and other fees to the College from his secret accounts,” Dr Swamy alleged.

Corruption in India is a major concern because of the mind boggling amounts of money illegally appropriated in the Satyam, IPL, CWG and 2G Spectrum scams. India today has one of the most corrupt governance. The unanimous worldwide view is that corruption is no more the tolerable grease or speed money in any system, but a cancer that will cause death of a society unless cured early.

Although ancient India had won the admiration of visiting monks, historians and traders as a nation of honest citizens, we have lost that reputation. Global watchdog, Transparency International Index of Corruption, shames us in India’s rankings. Our citizens’ illegal bank deposits in tax havens abroad are the highest for citizens of any nation — as high as $1.5 trillion. Though India is a signatory to the UN Convention Against Corrupt, it is yet to ratify it. The Convention came into force on December 14, 2005 when 38 nations ratified it. Its asset recovery provision is appealing. Yet, India is yet to sign.

Corruption misallocates resources from the meritorious to the unworthy, most transactions then lead to sub-optimally produced sub-standard goods and services, which would not otherwise have been sold in the open market without law enforcement retribution. The bitter truth is that our corporate world’s success stories are founded on fudged accounts and undisclosed funding through black money held by corrupt politicians and criminals. Since merit today is regarded inferior to acquisition of power, the immoral, criminal, powerful and illegitimately rich achieve social respectability because of this short-cut to wealth. Since elections lead to political power of those with illegal funds, future Governments naturally become bribe-compliant and protect the crooked. The cure for corruption is manifold but the goal cannot be achieved unless there is accountability in governance. Such accountability requires transparent and ethical reporting of the finances of an organisation. I highlight 11 ways:

HA! This India:- Police raids peon's house. Finds assets worth Rs.10 Cr!!

Ujjain: Lokayukta police today raided the residence of a Class IV employee of the Ujjain Municipal
Corporation here and found documents showing assets worth Rs. 10 crore, officials said.

The raid on the residence of Narendra Deshmukh was conducted by a Lokayukta team comprising around 15 persons, led by Lokayukta SP Arun Mishra.

Mishra said although Deshmukh was peon, the documents showed that he owned two houses, 18 'bigha' land, one poultry farm and a farm house.

The SP said Deshmukh also had shares in a factory and a hotel in Mumbai in addition to ten bank accounts and land in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra.

An inspector at Bazar Peth police station was caught accepting bribe by the ACB and a subsequent raid at his residence revealed he had disproportionate assets worth Rs 25 crore Anti-Corruption Bureau's Thane unit raided on Saturday the residence of C S Mali, inspector at Bazar Peth police station in Kalyan, and charged him with possessing disproportionate assets worth Rs 25 crore. The ACB arrested Mali on Friday after they caught him accepting Rs 60,000 bribe from Raju Ratilal Soma. CS Mali at the time of arrest pic/Navneet Barhate During the investigations at his residence in Archie's Complex near Kalyan railway station, officials found that Mali owns five flats worth Rs 2.5 crore and two shops worth Rs 50 lakh in the same building. He also owns two flats worth Rs 80 lakh in nearby building Sunder Plaza and 80 acre land worth Rs 16 crore in Solapur. "We have seized two guns, two gas connection cards, and 450 grams of gold jewellery from Mali's residence. We have also found details of two bank lockers and several bank accounts," an ACB official said. According to sources Mali accumulated assets by extorting money from people, who invested in Sai Corporation's disputed building near Adharwadi jail. After Mali learnt that the builder had sold one flat to several people, he started to call those investors to the police station, along with their documents, and threatened to arrest them claiming that their documents were fake. He demanded bribes ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh from the investors to not arrest them. Saudagar, who had invested Rs 15 lakh in six flats, was arrested by Mali on October 24 after he refused to cough up a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. A few days later, Mali demanded Rs 1 lakh from Saudagar's guarantor Soma. Saudagar advised Soma to approach the ACB.
